The bounced cheque

Don't even bother signing it if you know you have insufficient money in the bank. Why sign it and end up having it bounced out?

Similarly, don't promise if you can't make it. Why promise and only on the very last minute, decide to play out on the rest?

Seriously, this is something that really annoys me. Because if this is always the case, how on earth is a gathering going to be successful? When there are only 2-3 people who made time to go all the way to town but end up, to witness such pathetic attendance?

Not like you said "I can't confirm yet, tomorrow I will let you know" or "maybe. I'll confirm tomorrow". Then fine, nobody can say anythign about you not able to come.

Anyway, this is not about anyone in specific. It's something that should be changed, or things will never work out anymore. Nobody has patience that can last forever.
