Isn't it exciting?
I was well prepared wayy before my planned timing, had extra time to play with Giorgio and send text messages. My dad was really kind to send me all the way to work today; waited for Ivan at lobby before proceeding to office together.
Hmmm. First day of work.
In my powersuit. =)
Never have I ever imagined that I could actually work in CBD area, in a p o w e r s u i t. I always think I would end up working in some neighborhood industrial park, dressed in jeans and Abercrombie, lunching from the same mee-pok stall every single day. After 6 months of work, I could most probably even openly start MSNing and SMSing all day because the boss leaves after morning briefing, the wife runs along with him, the senior colleague just quit and the new girl wouldn't even dare to go for toilet breaks. Everyday goes the same way just like every other day, nothing too exciting or risky. Life just moves on like how caterpillars fill their fat bodies with leaves today and find new ones tomorrow again.
But no, this is a BIG company. A bank. A dream working environment! We have to be really meticulous in our work, to ensure there weren't errors. Time IS money; no idling moments to see who's updated their friendster or facebook; even MSN could very well be blocked. I wasn't even thinking of doing that. I was so enthusiastic about learning new things, pick up as much as I can during this steep yet short portion of the learning curve.
The entire morning was spent meeting 281 people, tagging their names to their unique faces. Simon, one with quirky glasses and unshaved chin. Angela, tall babe with healthy sunkissed bronze on her velvety skin. Meilin, had dopey eyes that explains her really weightless handshake. I think there could be like 5 Irene-s, 8 Jasmine-s, 7 Thomas-s, maybe 1 Roosevelt and 1 Sook Choon. How much can I remember? (No, I'm not seroius. Because i'm just exaggerating the numbers and the names are ficticious to protect their identity.) And about 70% of them were women; mostly very stylishly dressed, looking all hot and chic. While more than half of the men were older than 30. Hmm. Just that glance, it kills all the hope for daily dosage of eye candies.
I loved my office. I don't exactly have a designated desk yet, but I just love the environment. So far, everyone seemed really nice and friendly. Hopefully, they'll keep that scary side of them in the drawers as long as they could. I made a new friend, also a new A.R.M from another university. Her name is TC. Seemingly nice and sweet, a little reserved yet ambitiously seeking for greater challenges at work. We hit off quite well, talked about mostly her loving boyfriend who works nearby and how often he could actually pop by for lunch. I hated that topic for once, but it was the only topic that girls like to talk about, something in relation to emotions. Anyhows, I liked her. =)
Other nice people at work, CT, Jessica and Agnes. Just eased the tension of working in that stressful environment!
My afternoon was spent reading up on financial instruments and some basic procedures at work. It was really dry and boring but I know it is important and useful for me. Had to force my eyes open. It can be so difficult that sometimes, I just dozed off with my head hanging. It got me drifting into strange dreams of me savouring on celestial food and woke up with my eyes looking at TIME DEPOSITS. Such an utter turn off, I'd say, that I couldnt even enjoy that momentary bliss in my dreams. Still, I managed to stay awake by keeping my mind busy thinking about happy things. Like visualizing how I would decorate my desk, who's photos to place, what girlie stuff I would put up, what other necessary hand moisturizers I would bring. Etc. I can't wait for a personal desk!
The best of the afternoon was listening to how the other colleagues spoked to the customers; it was so much like coaxing a baby, cajoling a sweetheart and blandishing the rich kings. It was a special skill; I didnt even think I could PR that well. With the right words, the musical variation of tones and the right handsome laugh, even I could imagine myself blushing and beaming with pride. Ah, a unique skill indeed ;)
I'm really sleepy now. Gonna sleep. Tomorrow would be a more challenging day (or so I heard). I need good rest to listen up. Good night people. =)
