Thailand (I)

I'm always excited for trips, even if it is just crossing the bridge over to Malaysia. I love travelling! :)

I woke up about 9am to get myself prepared (we need to leave the house at 10.30am) and yes, it is rare that I make sure that I wouldn't be late. I've saved up quite a bit for the whole of June just to splurge on this major shopping spree in thailand. So happy!

In the airport, we actually met one of our friend who is taking the same flight and staying the same hotel! World is so small. You will see it smaller as you continue to read on..

I hated budget airlines because of the little leg space and the stiff seats. I shouldn't be complaning since it's BUDGET afterall. Urgh, if it wasn't a shopping paradize, I guess I would have paid more for a plane ticket. You know, even the pilot is grouchy that day! The take-off and sudden descends really stirs my stomach. I almost fell like puking. My mum offered me some sour prunes but ah HAH! We cannot consume food which are not bought in the plane! (-.-)

*And please don't say words for the pilot, because it wasn't air turbulence and I know how it feels like lah! Even the trip back wasn't that bad.

We arrived in thailand at about 4:00pm SG time. There wasn't delay, time was wasted when the plane had to wait for its turn for takeoff as other big sister planes like Qantas and British Airways will take off first. My uncle actually waited for us early at the airport, since 3:00pm. (From now onwards, let's talk in Bangkok's local time. They are actually 1 hour behind us; GMT +7. For e.g Singapore 4pm = Bangkok 3pm)

Since morning, I haven't had anything! I was soooo totally famished. All i could think of was to eat. As soon as we landed, I thought we could grab a bite almost immediately. However, we met my uncle only at 3.30pm ( SG 4.30pm ) and due to the massive jam from the airport, we arrived at our hotel at 6pm. (SG 7pm)

BKK greeted us with their signature traffic jam
The jam didn't begin from the airport. It begin only 2 junctions away from the hotel. Imagine, it's as near as Wisma to PS. But the jam was really horrible. To think about it, how can it not jam when the roads will happily switched from one-way street to two ways or vice versa?

We're staying in Baiyoke Sky Hotel! Nice view hor?

In the end, we went for the nearest makan place around our hotel. Strangely, it is a Pakistan-Indian-Thai restaurant. Its decor were sooo Pakistan-ie, the food were mainly thai food and the songs were so indian-ie. I didn't take any pictures because i was like a starving child who would eat up any remaining bean sprouts (if any) even though I really disliked them.

Right after dinner, my uncle brought us to pray at the famous Four-faced buddha statue. It isn't located IN a temple, which I always thought so. In my mind, I always thought it was in a temple up on the hills. I've been to thailand years ago. That kinda explains how much I've remembered.

Interesting street lamps. The only kind we have in singapore are the boring looking ones where you see it everywhere ( in the highway esp).

Lookie. The shopping center behind looks like our Paragon in Orchard, but much prettier of course.

We actually walked from the dinner place TO the four-faced buddha. My uncle told us it's within walking distance. WAH, we actually walked almost 20 minutes! I begin pespiring already man. But it was a fruitful walk, least you get to see the many MANY things they have along the push-carts and mini-stalls. They may look pasar-malam, but the things they sell definitely look more interesting than those in Singapore ACTUAL pasar malam ok!

That to and fro to four-faced buddha and back to hotel really get my legs warming up for MORE walks the next few days. Back in hotel to wash up a little before we continue MORE shopping!

We left our hotel at about BKK 9.30pm. (SG 10.30pm. Urgh. Tired of repeating. You know how it works by now lah hor). We took a cab to Suan-Lum night bazaar. Our first shopping spree. It only opens at night, from 7pm till about 12am. It is really huge, almost as huge as two soccer field? Thousands of mini-stalls. It's really cooling to shop there. it wasn't too stuff and warm. :)

There are still many many people awake! Alive and kicking! They actually have this huge stage where thai singers would be dancing and singing the night away while the tourist and shoppers would sit down and enjoy their evening with food and drinks.

I didn't buy much during the first day, was too sleepy and lethargic. We left about 12.30am and by the time I finished bathing, it's already 2am. So tiring lor. That's the sacrifice for holidays! Making full use of the time! Oh, before I forget to mention, taxis are EVERYWHERE. You wouldn't have to wait for more than 2 minutes for a cab. The fares are way, way,WAY cheaper than in Singapore! Boarding fare starts at 35 baht, which is equivalent to $1.50 only lor! And adding the Jam and distance, it only totals up to 70 baht max! SO CHEAP LOR. Goodness. So we actually tipped the cabby cos he was kinda nice. :)

Ok, shall continue tomorrow. Going for late dinner now. AHH...the scary bidding starts tomorrow again! :( Hate it.
