What is a 'friend'

What constitutes to a worthy friend?

One who will be forthright honest about how stuck up you are at times? One who will lend you a shoulder to cry on when the world crashes on you? One who will share the best times in your life?

Well, I think everyone have different expectations of what they think, makes a good friend. To me, i think it is pretty simple. What matters most is honesty, understanding, chemistry and appreciation.

Why would I even include chemistry? My chemistry here doesn't mean the kind of lovey-dovey tingling fuzzy feeling! It's the kind that keeps two people connected. They may not share the same interest, but they share a mutual concord of perceptions.

I met up with Mich last week for coffee session at Coffee Bean.

Damn. I made a mistake in the photo. It should be "since 1991, not 1997!" but i'm lazy to change it lar. hehe.. pardon me babe.

We don't meet up very often; maybe once in two months or longer. There were times when we didn't contact each other for a year. Even after a long drag, we met up and still, the chemistry is there. We wouldn't run out of topics to talk about; we would still be able to know what the other party thinks and still feeling as close as ever. It feels the same way each time we meet up. And i'm sure, this is not going to change. :)

Back to my topic about friends. So to me, it doesn't mean that you have to meet up or keep in contact very often. And wait, it doesn't mean you should deliberately stop contacting! It's about a balance and understanding. Oh and it takes two hands to clap too. Two parties should take initiative to contact each other! Being 'too busy' with work or school is not a good reason. 'Expecting your friend to be too busy so you didn't contact her' isn't a good reason either. This is what i call ASSUMING.

Assuming is the worse thing that could ever happen in friendships & relationships. What is so tough about opening your mouth to ask or clarify any doubts?

Even when you do not have time to meet up, dropping a message to see how they're doing, or little 3 minutes chat on msn or 5 minutes call should do good.

Okay, I know I'm good at saying this and definitely not good at doing it myself. That's the problem. That is the mistake i've made in the past. Which is why, i am no longer 'someone' else's good friend / part of certain clique. We're just mere acquaintence now. Despite how many good shits we've been through, things were not the same as before.

Looking back, I think I didnt take the initiative too. (Even though they didn't, I cant just push the blame to them). If not, I think things could have been better. Now, it's damn awkward to meet up and ...there wouldn't be any common topic anymore. Yes, the chemistry that is.

I hate mind games, I hate guessing games too. Remember the old trick where people would just call you and ask you to guess who the hell are they? Don't do that to me. I prefer straightforwardness. I prefer to settle things right infront and not consolidating a hell lot of wrath and start fussing things up in the end.

All in all..
friends are ones who will be there for you during your worse times ( when circumstances allow them to!),friends will cry with you when you're sad, friends will be concerned about your current life, friends will make you laugh, friends will share good times and the bad, friends will not push blames but to discuss problem with you, friends compromises with one another, friends accept the flaws and strengths, friends are honest with you on opinions, friends will not harm nor hurt you, friends will consider whats best for you, friends will not coerce you to do anything, friends will throw tantrum on you during their shitty times, friends will encourage you, friends will share advice with you, friends will give constructive feedbacks and not sarcastic criticism. And the list goes on..

I'm quite sleepy now. Talk more another day. Here are just some stuff I've forgotten to upload last week.
