Expectations of people are formed when they use their own benchmark against others.
When you expect outcome A and it turns out to be B, it affects you entirely. The extent of impact depends how much reality differs from expectation, and the importance of the outcome. This impact is also known as "Disappointment".
How can one person pretend nothing happens when expectations are not met? Even though if he is nonchalant or pretend to be unaffected, the peer pressure from everyone else then drives you to the corner of the wall.
Most people chose to be irresponsible and yet, acting highly responsible. These people are the ones who can successful escape the feeling of disappointment because it is unimportant to them. Whereas, people who puts their best effort and act in the best interest for others, nobody gives a damn about them.
Apparently, being the bad guy is easier.
