Responsible : - adjectivehaving a capacity for moral decisions and therefore
accountable; capable of rational thought or action
This is one of my strongest and most persistent strength I have. And I only realize it yesterday, when Matt, San and I were chatting over lunch: -
Matt: "Janice, I think you're really suited to be a
teacher man."San: "Why?"
Matt: "She's so responsible, she wouldn't let a student
rot to die one lor."San: "Mmm. Ya, but I think you're too responsible
lah."
That's right. I'm just too responsible that it got the better of me. I care too much for things around me that I often get myself into trouble. Nobody has ever forced nor pushed me to do something, but I always feel obliged to fulfill my duties nevertheless.
Yes, I do complain about it all the time and I always end up swallowing everything like a bitter pill. I have never tried or should I say, dared, to take the first step out of this state I put myself in. Like what San once told me, "Nobody can take advantage of you unless you a l l o w them to."
And I think I did.
I let irresponsible people get away and keep quiet. I let free-riders scott free while I slog my nights away doing a one-man-show. I allow seniority to overtake principles, and find myself struggling to find a good reason to justify their partial actions. I worry too much for people who know how to take care of themselves, that I make extra trips and end up to find myself wasting time. I care too much about my pets that I find myself overexhausted trying to rush and manage too many things at a time. I worry for undone work that others have deliberately left it hanging, and spent extra hours to cover their share. I worry that addiction will bring them into back to the sorry state where they got out of, but their resentment and ignorance just hurts me much more.
So much I care for but nothing much could be helped or changed. Be it my friends, my family, my groupmates, my work, etc, I just feel a strong sense of liability towards them.
Am I putting too much pressure on myself? Or am I forced into dead-end? I just wished I could free myself from these self-imposed burdens in order to move to greater heights, with no worries, no pain, no suffocation.

No choice one..If you have free rider in your group, you definitely have to take on more responsibility...Just take it more as a learning journey...Know it's anguish to see these people getting the same marks as you w/o doing any work...But at the end of the day, you learned more through doing the project, right? Further if you get a C for not caring the project since you see that other not contributing the project, you will regret one..On the other hand, if you take up the responsibility and get a C, you have no one to blame...On the bright side, if you get good grade for the project, you should then be proud of your own efforts! When the time comes when you can peer evaluate your members, do it honestly... Even it meant giving them 98/100, while others get 100/100...The prof will notice the diff...Haizz...don't be too stressed up...You will achieve more and learn more by doing things yourself sometimes....Tk care...Yoohooo war (exam) drawing near....Gotta to burn more oil....
Erm i suffered 3 years, almost all projects with a free rider, then i decided to stop helping him. However with those kinds of XXXX lecturers, he passed all modules without doing anything (0%) still... A word of advice, get rid of freeriders at the start! Retribution exists...
To anonymous:
We are ultimately still people with feelings..Your group mates are studying in the same school with you and your paths will still cross one day after the project. You feel uneasy when you see this "free rider" in school paying for his free ride by repeating his/her mod...Though it may be what he/she deserves, but we are still humans. That bits of compassion reigns and that's why free riders still exist!!!

Erm i am a stubborn Taurus wishing for a lucky day which never came... Freeriders are enemies or parasites and will stay in your group forever with no where to turn to. Then, you can only silently slog all the way alone and you will experience all sorts of negative feelings.
Even if you cross your paths with those nonsense people next time, i bet they will have little power/affluence/ability. Just ignore them. After all, they may be laughing and making use of you and enjoying their lifes.
Of course, there are some sort close to freeriders, but much better as they can be you chauffeur and pay for your entertainment expenses. These sort of people are more practical and can be pardoned.
However, having a hard way will only make you stronger to battle the much more challenges ahead in life =D

Anyway complaining gets you nowhere, so just try your best and achieve whatever you can. Then you have no regrets. If you keep pondering over the calamity of FREERIDERS, you will get grumpier and more depressed.
