Little bits of happiness

I had the best 3 months of 2011 so far.

In September, I've finally got 'permanently hitched' and got my new place that turns out the way I wanted it to be. I flew 12 hours half way round the world to Europe, touch base at beautiful Greece and city-hopped Paris and London.

In October, my office moved a few levels higher (not that my position moved along but it still feels good to have a change in environment). Loved my neighbours and new seat, love the proximity with everyone else now that we are all located in the same area.

Celebrated Giorgio's 5th birthday with the family. My sweetie pie has grown so much fatter now, less hyperactive and a little more mature. Less toys required, more loving requested.

Had a month full of rejuvenating therapy. Brow contouring and tinting to soften my hostile look; regular facial to maintain the condition of my complexion, and a spa at my favorite place to fix the body aches and soothe the soul after several months of work.

Met up with S for a 2-hour quality catchup session. Straight to the point updates from the last time where we last spoke. Despite condensing discussion topics of career, family and goals, it was a gratifying time well-spent with my Tier 1 friend, S. Thank you for guiding me about directions in work too :) Absolutely owe it to you for boosting my courage!

Also met up with M, oldest friend ever. Although we meet like once a year, it's amazing how our bond remained strong. I trust that this is a good example of friendship built on strong foundations; a good friend who will always be there when I need. And a shopping + clubbing khaki too. ;)

In November, met up with two lovely friends whom I have not met for say..13 years? Old neighbors of mine, used to play all day and talk all night during my childhood years. The fond memories of child's play and innocence never seem to fade away. The moment I saw them, I somehow feel like a kid again, wanting to go back to where we have stopped. Loved them like my own sisters, and I wished I was part of their growing up too so I wouldn't have missed out so much, and should have been there for them too. I'm really blessed to have met all 3 of them lately!

In the same month, I went to catch David Foster's concert in MBS. Terrific songwriter/producer with great sense of wit and humour. Unfortunately, as Charice and Russell Watson couldn't make it for day 1's concert, it didn't turn out as good as it could be.

Not long after, off to Hongkong for my relative's wedding/visit. Really short trip to meet up with my favorite relatives again; also a good chance to indulge in endless desserts and good food in the streets of Hongkong. Pleasantly surprised to buy a few designer clocks for my new place too.

I've attended several trainings this month and there was one motivational trainer who made me reflect on my values as a person. He shared his life experiences and stories,ignite the drive and initiated a soul-searching about myself too. One of his interesting take home message, " If you don't feel like doing something, then don't do it. If you still decide to do anyway, then don't bother wasting your life complaining."

Finally, the annual Dinner & dance has made 2011 a fantastic year for me already. Not only did I enjoyed the night filled with tonnes of fun and laughter, it was a night to remember. It's been ages since I last had a chance to work hard for a competition. This year, I was part of the talent competition group members; participating as a back-end dancer too. During the early weeks of practice, I seriously dread going to them. I complained quite a bit at home, and I still put in my best anyway. And that's the exact same irony mentioned by the trainer. Why do something that I don't feel like continuing yet chose to do it with so much complains? In the end, we actually emerged as the champion team and the sweet triumph just made all the effort worth while. Now when I look back, it was the process that was more memorable than anything else. Even days after the event, my mind couldn't seem to get over the jubilation of the whole journey, from the practices to the actual stage performance and lastly, the announcement of results.

Well, that pretty much sums up alot for the past few months! It's getting extremely late and I might not even be talking right anymore.
Time to stop, and hope I get such motivation to blog again!

Phase

I was just telling everyone about my sadness towards my beloved Giorgio. I loved him so dearly, raised him like my own child. Took all the time I could to discipline, play and care for him. Times he falls sick, we kept him company, make sure he's fine before we go to bed.

Now that we are in a different phase, I'm no longer the student who has the luxury of time to be there for him that much. We gotta work, we gotta meet friends, we gotta get married, we gotta move out, we gotta have kids, we gotta move out. Sounds like an excuse to neglect him, but despite all other committments, i try to make it home everyday, least 5days in a week to play and walk him. Take him out for montly outings.

It seems he no longer needs that because we now have a fulltime helper to do the chores. So whenever she has time (she actually has plenty of it since there's nothingmuch to do at our place), she would play with him, pet him to sleep, feed him, bathe him and walk him. He has "transferred" his affection to someone who.spends a great deal of time for him. Now he doesn't even snuggle with me anymore..

Just like any other parent, setting aside the fact that he's a dog, i felt hurt that he doesn't need us anymore. In fact, i think he loved us less now, and probably loyal to the helper instead. I am no longer his dependent. Yet i actually have no right to feel so because i couldn't give him what he needed.

Sigh, what am i supposed to do to win his heart back? Seriously, feels like a forsaken breakup. I know people who doesn't have pets wouldn't feel the same attachment but at this stage, i do and it's irreversible. Anyone have similar experiences?

Yayy!! Everything's over.

So happy right now. After 1 week's rest and few days sick, I'm happy now! Slowly finding time to upload my super outdated photos. No more time to describe them..

Was just recalling why I started blogging back then. Mainly, it was to mark down the memorable days of my life; color them with photos and videos so when I'm bored, I get to look through and smile. Hard copy photos are difficult to keep up, because of the need to print, paste them nicely, etc.. And as I grow older (hopefully wiser too), it's more of an avenue to 'think aloud'. To express how I feel there and then.

But since a long time, I didn't have a good phone to access the web via phone (now I do! And Android rocks!) so I didn't really have the time to ruminate, to reflect, to talk about my feelings, to realign my goals..

Somehow, I feel detached from myself.

So much about talking to thy self, I hope I do find time and energy to do bits of 'thinking aloud' through my phone. Haven't got a computer in my house now, so once it's up and running, say YAYY with me! :)))

Someone I miss

Was looking for some reference online and I was somehow drawn to an old friend's photo albums. As I was looking through her albums, memories were recollected on the good times we've shared. She stood by during the bad time of my early career (coupled with other personal problems too), and how I've done the same for her too.

I guess we grew apart due to own commitments and lack of time spent, and I do miss her. Looking at how happy she became with her current life and friends, I do feel a tinge of bittersweet-ness in me. I'm happy that she's doing better than before, yet I feel sad that I wasn't and couldn't be a part of it.

This is one of the things I'd hoped I could have done better.

Howdy peeps!

Finally able to blog from my phone now. It's been almost a week since I've
gotten my new phone. Been really happy with it so far.
Best thing of all, I'm not using a common phone :p

Feeling pretty happy today because I manage to knock off early
today! I'm actually temporarily stationed
at dohby ghaut to cover another colleague. Not a smooth start since
the systems and setup are not complete. Gotta struggle for a bit

I've always enjoyed my New Year, there's probably no other place I'd rather be than to be with them! The cards session and merrymaking all night was all good fun. This year's a little special because we get to see how fire-crackers really sound for the first time (not in sg though):D

Sometimes, it's hard not believe what the horoscopes say about each person. They always say, "Tauruses are stubborn creatures, and most of the time, they choose to believe only what they want to believe."

That is very true. Because I am a live example of one.

When I choose to have belief in something, I will do things in a way to 'ensure' it happens. And when it doesn't, it feels like a heartbreak of a teenage girl all over again. Just because I stubbornly chose to do it anyway.

I believe that fate has had the blueprint of our lives from the start till the end. But it is how we make, create or change things around us to fill the details and the colors of it all, like filling the colors of a painting. How colorful or dull, how things evolve pretty much depends on the choices we make. The outline is a guide to where we eventually end anyway; so in the event that we choose to leave out the intricate details, we'd still arrive at the finishing end... with nothing to look back and be smile about.

And I think I tried too hard to color it, to add details, to make the best out of it and it just never happened the way I hoped it to be. Especially when it comes to the ever-changing variant of all things in the universe - with people. Peoples' thoughts and feelings never reflect the 100% truth. It's alot on the guessing, the mind games, the assumptions, the pretense.... Why go through so much trouble when we can simply make lives easier by lying all the cards on the table?

Before you can master the technique to read a person, it has already changed again before you realize it.

That's why it's always hardest to manage relationships with bosses, colleagues, friends, spouses and families. Nobody knows how we can really keep all of them close by and preserve things the way when its at its best. Most of them eventually fades away.. learning our hearts wounded..

It has finally paid off.

Finally got my affirmation of my integrity and effort, when my boss gave me a short five-minute sincere commendation of my entire year's work done. It felt sooo good, just to hear him say, "I'm proud of you, and you've made our Team proud. Well done!"

Proud to say, *ahem*, I was ranked top councilor of the year 2010. I am proud of what I've achieved, simply because I've given my best to get it done. Really.

And this has washed away the utterly awful day I had on Thursday, don't really wanna talk about it though.

Peaceful Christmas

It's been a long while since I spent eve at home, in the comfort of my own room watch Gossip Girls. Hassle- and stress-free from crowd, especially from the aerosol foam sprays and desperate pervs in the streets.

Christmas day was another quiet one, just had sumptuous Foie Gras + Cod for dinner @ The Nautilus Project ION and caught a relatively boring movie @ Cine.

Unexpected delay

Haven't been standing up myself for the longest time.

Most people would have known, my tolerance level of most things is pretty high. Usually, I'll just let people have their way, even if it means a service compromise.

This time, it was tad too far.

Today is my date with the dentist again, the day I've been looking forward for the past 3 weeks. Most of my friends would have known, I'm actually wearing invisalign right now (invisible plastic 'retainers' that re-aligns your teeth). Mine was supposed to be fixed in 5 stages, and each stage has 3 phases (each phase takes a week).

Today is the day I take a new impression, preping for Stage 2 of alignment process. Unfortunately, the clinic only informed me that the next set of aligners will arrive in mid-January, which is at least 3 weeks from now.

3 weeks = 1 stage. I would have wasted 3 weeks (Stage 2) while I could have progressed with new set! I was very unhappy because the clinic was irresponsible, they could have informed me as I was going to book my appointment so I could make arrangements to come on an earlier date. All they explained was that the supplier had informed them late that production will close starting from today (total bull I say), and business will only resume from January 7th onwards.

Come on, 2 weeks holiday??

Anyhows, I think it's a miscommunication between the supplier and the clinic, and now I have to bear the consequences. Some way or another, I was expecting the clinic to least make the effort to try and get this exception done. But all they did was to insist it was impossible and there's nothing they could do.

I could have just gone elsewhere to complete my stage two, but that's really a waste of time to redo the scans and checks.

I argued and reasoned why I was upset, blah blah. But they did not seem to budge. If it was delayed for 1-2 more days due to the holidays, I'd totally understand. But this was a complete shutdown for 2 weeks, and it takes another week to get the mould out. That's a total of 3 weeks! Outrageous, really.

Very, very angry! Now all I can do is wait for Monday, for the clinic to revert on my status again. =[

Ah Chua's Wedding

After all the obstacles they've been through, they've finally reached their happy ending and tie the knot on this very day.

Have known both of them for a relatively long time. Especially ah chua, have been around during her lowest point and seen how she's grown overtime. Really glad how things turn out, and how radiant the bride looked during the night :)

We had our fair share of fun at the photobooth just outside to ballroom :P

Exciting day @ work, everyone seem to be in the celebratory mood! Slow morning start, relatively longer lunches and of course, early knock-off. :) Off to our annual Dinner and Dance at Hyatt Orchard.

A fun-filled night with boisterous laughter and cheers as the batch of new-hires presented several dances and skits, keeping everyone entertained. As for the lucky draw, I didn't get anything at all :(

Of course, not forgetting the after party at Filter!

I feel that sometimes it's just a decision, why do we have to go through so much trouble and pain to resolve it? We can never make everyone happy, it is hard to choose something that suits everyone.

It's only the beginning, but I'm starting to feel the strain already. The worse thing is, what I needed most is comfort and understanding, not SELFISHNESS and lack of initiative. What could be worse than being nonchalant yet expecting everything to be done in a snap of finger?

I'm very emotionally tired at the moment, it just makes me feel like crying like a child again. With no worries or concerns about what other people think about, just let it all out without fear. I'm tiring of fighting, arguing and fighting for what I want.

Sometimes, maybe we just take the back seat and let other people take over the steering. Although I do not know if it would lead me to somewhere I would like, least it is a lot stressful and gives me no reason to resent (it's the price to pay being not wanting to put in the effort or go through all that hassle).

Perhaps, it may lead me to unexpected surprises? I hope it's the good surprises though..

I need to be away from all these. Don't want to think about anything or talk about it.
I just want to let it out........... :(

Think I'm starting to realize the evil side of myself.

Acts of selfishness, all in the hope that I keep myself afloat in the drowning world. In hope that I can fend and protect myself in a place where you can't tell who is real anymore; or who you can trust at all.

Not that I have thoughts of achieving my goals on the expense of others, it's more of the possibilities of how I can avoid things that could jeopardize my wellbeing. Am I being selfish?

I think so.

But it's been long enough that I've kept quiet; many people have trampled over me and Scot-free. Happily enjoying life by doing what's borderline acceptable. Time to put my guard up and watch over my back.

Piazza San Marco - this large open area used to be the place for public execution in the past

2 Columns bearing the Statues of a Winged Lion and a St Theodore with a dragon, which is represented by a crocodile instead.

Arches of St Mark's Basilica was designed and covered in fine glittery mosaics, and inside, it's paved in marble flooring.

Strictly no bearing of arms and anything above knee. Even bags are not allowed in this holy church.

Campanile Di San Marco, aka Bell Tower, was built in the 10th century and collapsed in 1902. It was rebuilt brick by brick then. This tower stands at 91m (300 feet!)

It's my 5th day in Italy - first 3 days in Roma and another 4 days in Florence. Unfortunately, before I could thoroughly enjoy, I'm down with flu, sorethroat and fever. =[

Day 2 is another long day, almost 3/4 would be spent in Vatican Tour itself. Thankfully, we bought our tickets online, save time on the extremely queue!

Vatican Musei First Up; took a train to Vaticani Musei Station and take a 10-minutes walk to the Museum.

Florence City Tour (Day 4 & 5)

After a 2.5 hours intercity train ride, we've arrived at Florence SMN station. We actually gotta drag our luggage across 15 minutes cobbled walkway in search of our hotel.

Ponte Vecchio - built during the 14th Century and this was the only bridge that was not damaged during WWII.

This red dome is the world's 4th largest cathedral, one of the UNESCO Heritage Site. It has pretty pink, green and white marble facade too (see top left first picture).It was said to be built in 150 years to build!

Our 4 Star hotel, pretty conveniently located; nearest Metro @ Barberini Station.
In fact, we are able to walk to many tourist attractions within minutes :)

My pre-planned Itinerary! I took almost 3 months to complete this pile of notes. A very important item to bring everyday.

Brunch to keep us energized before we head off for a long day!

1. Fontana Delle Api - Fountain by the bees
Along uphills of Via Vittorio Veneto. The dirty water is actually for public and their animals. Eeew
3. Fontana Del Tritone - marked by MerMAN on 4 dolphins, artpiece by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.It's actually right infront of Hotel Bernini too
4. Also known as the Capuchin Cemetery.
In 1870, Capuchin monks used bones of 4,000 brothers to decorate the interior. As cameras were not allowed, didn't get to take any photos. Attached a copy of photo taken off the web.It's quite creepy though.

Gotta walk back to take the Metro for our afternoon tour @ Colosseum + Palatine Hills + Roman Forum.

The main square near the Metro is also known as Piazza Barberini.

Piazza Barberini - This is where unidentified corpses are displayed for identification during the 18th Century.

The medieval "cheese" of Rome; you see many holes in the pillars made of Travertine stone as the iron clamps that were used to hold them were "robbed"!

The Colosseum, host of many spectacles they say. Mainly used to entertain the public, sometimes to display wild animals or to be used as an arena for Gladiators to compete for power.

The Colosseum can house approximately 50,000 spectators. That's considered a great feat given the laidback technology available.

Ipogei - underground chambers; miniature mockup of the pulley system used to hoist animals and people.

The wild animals are usually locked in the dark dungeons with no daylight and food for at least a week before released for fights.

Originally, the floor deck was made of wooden planks and sand, which is said to prevent slip and also to soak up blood during the fights. You can see the newly restored partial floor deck on one side.

You can see the ruins Basilica of Maxentius on the left (3 hoops of columns), standing at about 35m tall, the biggest structure of the Roman Forum.

Arch of Constantine straight ahead, in clear sight were two huge statues of goddess Victoria, riding on a chariot led by 4 horses on the white building - the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II.

This cordoned off area is the place where the imperial guards and noblemen held celebrations, parties and dinners for private affairs.

Colorful frescoed walls and mosaic flooring, many imperial palaces were built on the Palatine because of "the cleaner air atop the hill"

After the long tiring walk through of the Roman history, we've decided to search for our next location for dinner, at Trastevere.

Along our lost directions, walked by Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II. This is to honour the first king of a unified Italy during the 20th Century.

Finally here @ Ponte Sisto bridge! There too many bridges around, and honestly, they all looked exactly the same. You wouldn't find out the name of the bridge until you're right infront of it where you see the sign.

Finally here for our dinner.

Trastevere is the heart of Rome, where the night life is.
Somewhat similar to what we have in boat quay, with long stretch of food places and bar, night markets and street performers.

They entertain crowds into the wee hours; singing, juggling, dancing, etc ANYTHING!

Decided to go Imperial Treasure at One 15 Degree @ Sentosa. Thought it might be away from the hustle and bustle of CBD area (think going to work 5-days a week is enough to keep us out of it!).

Unfortunately, it was rather disappointing. The outside had a beautiful view of yacht and waters, the interior was like any other chinese restaurant. It doesn't feel exclusive like Hai Tian Lou, and the food wasn't that fantastic. OVerated! Although they were nice to offer to help me purchase a birthday cake as they do not have complimentary ones, instead of bringing the cake out to surprise Xavier, they actually came over to ASK HIM how many candles should they put???

Almost fainted, really. Totally SURPRISED him (not the way I intended).

A good mid-week break - mummy's got us a 1-night complimentary stay at MBS! We went for a stroll at the Sky Park and the convention center; quick dinner at some expensive cafe, thereafter just to soak the stress away in the lovely bathtub of our hotel room.

The view from the room was just great! The interior, the service, the ambience; pretty much live up to its name. Except that the Wi-fi charges were mad high and the pillows were too soft. Left me a really aching neck the next morning :X

The next time I'm there, I'll bring a swimsuit and try relaxing by the infinity pool!

Sloth and Gluttony

Two types of characteristics of a person that I really cannot tolerate and absolutely abhor. These are things that are within our control; something we can choose to or not to act in a particular way. And such behaviors are definitely not acceptable, AT ALL.

Sloth / Laziness; I really cannot stand people offloading all their responsibilities to another person without putting an effort to even try. Taking for granted that everyone is obligated to help them at THEIR convenience, completely taking full advantage. And usually, these lazy people are people who have domestic helpers at home - treating everyone else like one too.

Glutton : We should all just eat what is required for the body to function, and once in a while, treat ourselves to 'sinful' food in moderation. Some people just cannot; and the sight of them continuously craving and munching on food disgusts me. Ti be clear, this has nothing to do with being fat at all (unless it is the reason how they got fat in the first place), because some skinny people do crave for endless oily, fried, sweet food and what-nots, shoving one after another every time the hour passes by.

In the long run, lazy people overly relies on other people to get a simple thing done, and likewise, gluttons will somehow fall into various categories of illness such as diabetes and heart-attack from all that high-sugar contents or 'unhealthy' food..

Damn, these are the decisions of selfish people to act irresponsibility; ways that only provide them with short-term satisfaction but long-term problem to people who care about them.

Spent an entire long weekend to upgrade my room.

We bought a new 32" LED TV, new Blu-ray player (finally!) and a new color printer + Scanner. All from comex 2010. The new TeeVo is awesome; exceptionally crystal clear images and brilliant colors when played in Blu-ray. And I love my printer. Haven't got a replacement since the old one was no longer working in 2008?

Got my PC upgraded as well, the internet couldn't work and I couldn't continue with my research. Now running on the new Windows 7, all complete with sticky notes and what-nots.

Now that I've spent 2 hours doing the random clean-ups, I can finally continue my research again. Ciaoz.

Realised I haven't been blogging for a really long time. Everytime when I feel like it, the moment passes even before I could start typing. Sometimes, I have tonnes of things to talk about and realise I didn't have the energy to sit down and think about it. So much so, I've left out alot of interesting 'moments' that I think I would gradually forget (and miss) as I age by the decades.

Where has my self-reflecting-me gone to? Am I stagnant in my life now that I've nothing to look forward or think about? Where I am heading too? Gosh, so much seems to be on my mind yet I keep coming with excuses not to blog. I love to, actually. Cos it keeps track of what I think and feel at the very moment. Might be handy in future when I look back at how wonderful my life has been. :)

Loved the brunch here, food is heavenly! Unlike the one at Robertson quay, Epicurious cafe at Railmall is less crowded. I tried calling the one at RQ several times and the service staff was really rude. :x

Goodbye Winnie

She seem to be in terrible pain for past 2 days.. Somehow, it's a relieve that she no longer has to go through it. It feels too surreal and I still cannot believe that it has happened. I was there to watch her slowly giving up.. it pains me so much because I wasn't able to help her at all.

I wished we could have done so much more; handed her to good hands much earlier. But it was all too late. All that's left are the sweet memories she's given to us for the past 7 years.

I was the only who watched her as she slowly gave up.. She looked tired, yet relieved. All I could do was to give her a last hug..

I took a walk with Giorgio and memories of little Winnie keeps flashed back. The intelligent, cheerful and obedient little corgi who never fails to make us smile. I'd always remember the happy moments when she snuggle in bed with us, when she wages her tail and smile with her eyes. I hope she knows that we all love and miss her deeply in our hearts..

Went slightly earlier to grab dinner at Thai Village Restaurant.
Ordered thick and sumptous Shark's fin soup, juicy and tender cod fish with braised salted egg with veggies. *slurp*.

The queue was madly long everywhere, even the restaurants seems to be full house (at least 40 mins wait). Those who were there for just fried rice had to wait longer! Luckily for us, since we ordered several dishes (including shark's fin soup), we were given seats pretty soon. :P

Mum does the best in all that she do.

Just yesterday, I was sick all day and she took it all upon herself. To cook, to feed, to watch and takecare of all my needs. Even washed the dishes, pour me a cup of water and walk to the nearest coffee shop to buy me lunch. :)

I was asked to monitor and take down the frequency of the migraine pulls, and that's what i've keyed in my mobile phone.
Almost killed me, really couldn't take it. It's far worse than having fever or flu. I practically couldnt do anything;
each sudden strike creates an extreme sharp pain and i can hardly open my eyes or move.

Least it's better now, occuring less frequently. Think the medication finally worked after 2hours.
It's hard to sleep when i keep having the feeling as if someone's pulling the same 10 strains of hair of the same spot
over and over. Sometimes a quick tug; sometimes a long drag. God i really hate it, hope i could just take
something to knock me out...

Despite some rough moments just few days ago, I think by looking at the bright side, it makes me happier too.

I had a simple lunch, nothing too extravagant or showy, just simple meal and making me feel like a queen. Haha. Although I was at work, my colleagues were nice enough to 'avoid' giving me work, making it a breeze to go through the day!

S and N were really thoughtful, both of them bought me a gift! N bought me a really expensive one.. given the really short amount of time I've been supporting her. All that she's done for me, I'm really grateful for that.

Then I had the influx of sms and FB messages, really happy to receive them! Perhaps its the reminder from FB or that they genuinely remembered my birthday, least they bothered to type the 13 alphabets to me. =] Even mum send me a heartwarming birthday text!

I had the simplest celebration ever with Xavier, went for snacks and rushed for movie. .. cos my belated celebration will be on the weekend! :P

I'm so, so happy today because finally, someone has showed appreciation to all my hard work!

I feel thoroughly accomplished today after the positive feedback. Gave me a huge encouragement, I'm feeling so so relieved and happy! Such an angel, she's such an angel. :]

Boss also 'recognized' my efforts, least my extra long hours for whole of last month wasn't wasted after all.

It just made my day so much brighter, make my life so much happier :)

bad things about work

i work too much, my shoulders ache.
i face the computer too long, my eyes get really dry and tired.
i leave work late, i have no energy to do anything i want or keep my family company.

and i just found out that when you're stressed out, you tend to be darker too.
